Congressman Nickel Announces $882,115 in New Federal Funding for Wake Tech

Today, Congressman Wiley Nickel announced $882,115 in new federal funding for Wake Technical Community College’s SENTINEL project from the National Science Foundation.

“Wake Tech’s SENTINEL Project is an example of the outstanding innovation coming from North Carolina. I’m glad to announce new funding for the project and am excited to see its positive impact on the future of the tech industry in Wake County,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “I’m committed to pushing for continued funding for these projects in North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District, and furthering STEM opportunities right here at home.”

Wake Tech’s Security and Networking Training through Inclusive, Novel, and Experiential Learning (SENTINEL) project seeks to educate students on the emergent technology fields of Advanced Networking, Cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IOT). This will help to address the future needs of the industry by equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge to work with these technologies.

The program will recruit a cohort of learners from Wake County focusing on women, veterans, and minorities from groups underrepresented in STEM, helping to diversify the industry’s future.

The funding will come from the National Science Foundation (NSF), an agency that supports research, innovation, and discovery that provides the foundation for economic growth in the country.
