Reps. Nickel, Ross Celebrate $1.9M in New Federal Funding for Apex

Today, Reps. Wiley Nickel (NC-13) and Deborah Ross (NC-02) hosted a press conference with Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert and members of the Town Council, Representative Maria Cervania, and Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings to celebrate $1.9 million in federal funding that they secured for the town to complete the Cash Corporate Center Sewer Interceptor (Middle Creek Outfall) Project.

“I’m proud to have secured this $1.9M in federal funding for the Town of Apex to complete the Cash Corporate Center Sewer Project,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “This funding will help ensure efficient and effective sewer infrastructure for the Town of Apex and its residents, which is critical for public health and safety. By partnering with Rep. Deborah Ross on this joint community project funding request we’re helping to alleviate the burden on local taxpayers and get good high paying jobs to Western Wake County.”

The Cash Corporate Center Sewer Interceptor Project includes approximately 2,000 linear feet of 12" PVC gravity sewer line, extending from the existing Pinnacle Park pump station to the Regional Middle Creek #2 pump station that is currently under construction.

This project is part of the adopted Master Sewer Plan to construct a gravity sewer main extending through the Cash-Perkins property, connecting to the future Upper Middle Creek Gravity Interceptor and the proposed Middle Creek Gravity Interceptor and regional pump station for Horton Park.

This gravity sewer will allow both the Cash-Perkins and Pinnacle Park Pump Stations to be taken offline resulting in more efficient service delivery and reduced maintenance cost for public utilities.

Reps. Nickel and Ross secured the community project funding for the Town of Apex through a bipartisan government funding package that was signed into law by President Biden on Saturday, March 9th, 2024.

During the press conference, Congressman Nickel also announced a new $5 million community project funding request for the Town of Apex that he submitted to the House Appropriations Committee for consideration in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Appropriations bill.

The Town of Apex would use this funding for the South Salem Bicycle Connection Phase II Project to place markings along Salem Street from Apex Peakway to Hunter Street and bike lanes along South Salem Street from Pleasant Park to Apex Peakway. These improvements would help create a safer environment for cyclists and vehicles, promoting active transportation and reducing congestion.
