Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) returned from a bipartisan Congressional delegation trip led by House Financial Services Committee Chair Patrick McHenry (NC-10) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, and Japan. The bipartisan delegation attended a series of high-profile meetings and engagements in an effort to enhance cooperation across critical sectors such as trade, defense, and digital assets. “This experience reaffirmed the importance of international diplomacy and trade in building bridges between nations,” said Congressman Nickel. “As we witness the rapid development of new markets - particularly the growing role of digital assets in the global economy - fostering collaboration and understanding across borders becomes increasingly vital to support our alliances.” In the UAE, Congressman Nickel engaged in discussions with key figures including U.S. Ambassador Martina Strong; UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and Mohamed al-Suwaidi, Minister of Investment. The group also met with Waleed Al Muhairi, Deputy Group CEO of Mubadala; Matt White, CEO of Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA); and participated in a roundtable with the US-UAE Business Council. In Singapore, Congressman Nickel met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong; and participated in a delegation roundtable hosted by Chia Hock Lai, Co-Chair of the Singapore Digital Assets Association, about the importance of regulatory clarity and collaboration in the digital asset space. In Japan, Congressman Nickel strengthened diplomatic ties through engagements with U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel, digital assets and fintech leaders, and cultural experiences at the Toyosu Market and Sensoji Temple.
