Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) issued the following statement on the passing of former United States Senator Joe Lieberman:

“During my time working for Vice President Al Gore, I had the opportunity to get to know Senator Joe Lieberman. As a campaign advance staffer, I was placed in charge of the Vice Presidential announcement event in Nashville. It was an honor to be a part of such a significant event. For the first time in history, a major party nominated a Jewish American for their ticket. Senator Lieberman was the true embodiment of a public servant who loved his country and the people he served in office. My sincerest thoughts are with his family and friends during this trying time.”
