Congressman Nickel Issues Statement Remembering January 6th U.S. Capitol Attack
Washington,
January 6, 2024
Today, Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) issued the following statement marking the January 6th assault on the United States Capitol: “January 6th, 2021, was one of the darkest days in our nation’s history. The brutal attack on the U.S. Capitol by over 2,000 insurrections - on the direct orders of former President Donald Trump - resulted in five deaths and hundreds of injuries. Tragically, two police officers on duty that day have since committed suicide. Today, we honor the service and sacrifices they made to protect our democracy. “In their memory, we cannot fail our responsibility to hold those who stormed the Capitol, as well as their enablers, directly accountable. Anything less is a threat to the rule of law in this country.” |
