Washington, DC – Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued the following statement after Congressman Wiley Nickel announced he would not seek another term in the House of Representatives:

During his time in Congress, Rep. Wiley Nickel has been a thoughtful, commonsense legislator and a champion for the people of North Carolina. He’s dedicated himself to working across the aisle wherever and whenever possible and delivering real results for the people he is privileged to represent in Congress. 

On the prestigious Financial Services Committee, Wiley has worked to lower the cost of housing, invest and expand opportunity for the middle class and build a more just and equitable economy that works for Americans in every zip code. 

I am disappointed that the radical, right-wing North Carolina General Assembly decided to rig the system in their favor and deprive North Carolinians of the fair and equitable congressional representation they deserve. I wish Wiley and the Nickel family the best as he begins this next chapter of his public service journey.
