Congressman Nickel Issues Statement on NCGA Congressional Map

Today, Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) issued the following statement after the North Carolina General Assembly voted to pass a self-serving, highly partisan congressional map:

“Last year, courts threw out a Republican gerrymander and drew a fair, 7-7 congressional map for North Carolina,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “Now, we’re seeing yet another extreme partisan gerrymander from the Republican legislature. It’s not fair to draw 10 or 11 out of 14 safe Republican seats for our 50/50 state. To be clear, this is Republican legislators trying to hand-pick their own voters and predetermine the outcome of our elections before they even happen. No matter what happens to NC-13, I’m going to keep fighting for fair maps. We have to end partisan gerrymandering on the federal level, and protect the right to vote for every single North Carolinian.”
