Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representative Wiley Nickel (NC-13) issued the following statement in response to reporting by groups, including the Wall Street Journal, on defense budget cuts by the Republican Majority.

"I'm very concerned about reporting that Speaker McCarthy may have promised extremists in his party steep cuts to the Pentagon’s budget," said Congressman Nickel. "As a Member of the Blue Dog Coalition, I support a strong national defense and oppose budget cuts which could hit North Carolina hard. I’m particularly concerned about endangering funding to Ukraine in the face of Putin’s unjust attack on their democracy."
