Congressman Nickel Releases Economic Impact Report

Today, Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) released a report detailing how working families in North Carolina’s 13th District are struggling to keep up with rising costs of goods and services.

The report titled, “Economic Impact Report: Making Ends Meeting in North Carolina’s 13th District,”  outlines how Congressman Nickel has hit the ground running and is working every day to reach across the aisle and find bipartisan, common-sense solutions to the issues that matter most to working families in North Carolina.

The report utilizes a sample monthly budget based on median cost for basic necessities in North Carolina’s 13th District via the Economic Policy Institute and the United States Census.

“As the cost of living continues to increase, whether it's the cost to rent a home, put your kids in daycare, pick up prescriptions, or fuel up your car, wages aren't keeping up. That's just unsustainable. It's unfair,” said Congressman Nickel. “Working families in my district deserve to know that their leaders are willing to roll up their sleeves and come to bipartisan compromises that will make a difference in their lives, and their budgets. I'm working to do just that."

As a bipartisan leader in Congress and member of the powerful House Financial Services Committee, Congressman Wiley Nickel is working to level the playing field for working families by lowering out-of-pocket costs and building a more equitable tax system so that everyone can thrive in NC-13.

Since being sworn in just over 100 days ago, Congressman Nickel hit the ground running for the people of North Carolina’s 13th District. Since January, Congressman Nickel has opened two district offices, met with over 150 constituent groups and organizations, clawed back over half a million dollars through casework assistance, and submitted over $32 million in community project funding requests. He’s also hosted four open town halls and has heard from and responded to over 10,000 emails, calls, and letters. Further, Congressman Nickel has taken robust legislative action, sponsoring or cosponsoring over 60 bills.
