Washington, D.C.,
September 19, 2024
Today, Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) announced his co-sponsorship of the bipartisan resolution introduced by Reps. Ashley Hinson and Alma Adams, officially designating September 19th as “National Stillbirth Prevention Day.” On this day, as a member of the Congressional Dads Caucus, Congressman Wiley Nickel is urging dads to get involved in the fight to prevent stillbirths and improve maternal health outcomes. “As a proud member of the Congressional Dads Caucus, I’m committed to ensuring that dads everywhere recognize the critical role we play in maternal health and stillbirth prevention,” said Congressman Nickel. “This is not just a moms’ issue—it’s a family issue, and it’s a dads’ issue too. National Stillbirth Prevention Day is an important reminder that we must do everything in our power to ensure no more families suffer the heartbreak of losing a child to stillbirth.” Congressman Nickel also highlighted the importance of passing the Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education (SHINE) for Autumn Act (H.R. 5012), which would enhance data collection, advance research, and increase education on stillbirth prevention. He’s urging Congress to prioritize this issue to save lives and bring hope to families across the country. "Preventing stillbirths is about education, awareness, and advocacy. And dads need to be a part of that conversation," Congressman Nickel continued. "By supporting legislation like the SHINE for Autumn Act, we can make meaningful strides in reducing stillbirth rates and giving families the resources they need to avoid such a devastating loss." On National Stillbirth Prevention Day, Congressman Nickel encourages fathers to take an active role in supporting maternal health, advocating for preventative measures, and raising awareness about stillbirth. This is a call to action for all dads to stand up and be part of the solution. |
