Rep. Nickel Issues Statement on North Carolina Medicaid Expansion Agreement

Today, U.S. Representative Wiley Nickel (NC-13) issued the following statement in response to North Carolina House and Senate leaders reaching a bipartisan agreement on Medicaid expansion:

“I'm very encouraged to see that the North Carolina Legislature has come to a bipartisan agreement on Medicaid expansion, a move that will lower health care costs for working families across our state,” said Representative Nickel. “For too long, our state health care system has been overburdened, and this decision will unlock billions of dollars in federal funding to help increase access and coverage for working families and individuals in North Carolina.”

Representative Nickel, a member of the Congressional State Medicaid Expansion Caucus, has been a steadfast advocate for Medicaid Expansion and fought to get similar legislation passed in a bipartisan way during his tenure in the North Carolina Senate.

In Congress, Representative Nickel is a cosponsor of the Cover Outstanding Vulnerable Expansion-eligible Residents Now Act (COVER Now Act) to enable local governments to provide health benefits to the Medicaid expansion population in states that have not expanded Medicaid.

Representative Nickel is also a cosponsor of H.RES 122, a resolution expressing support for States to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act to close the Medicaid coverage gap.
