Congressman Nickel Announces $244,906 Federal Grant for The Marbles Kids Museum to Promote Career Exploration Through Play

Today, Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) announced that The Marbles Kids Museum has been awarded a $244,906 Museums for America grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This funding will support the design and installation of a new immersive exhibit, “Futuropolis,” dedicated to engaging children in career exploration through hands-on play.

“The Marbles Kids Museum has long been a cornerstone of our community and this grant will allow them to continue their incredible work of inspiring the next generation,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “By introducing children to careers in growing industries like biotechnology, construction, and transportation, we’re not just sparking their imaginations – we’re helping to build a stronger future workforce for North Carolina.”

The new 3,000-square-foot exhibit will be a dynamic space where children can explore a variety of careers through interactive activities and displays that reflect the industries driving North Carolina’s economy. By focusing on hands-on, imaginative play, the exhibit aims to contribute to local and regional workforce development efforts, ensuring that children of all backgrounds can envision a future in these vital fields.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services’ Museums for America program supports museums across the country in strengthening their ability to serve the public. This year, 115 out of 347 applicants were selected for funding. The Marbles Kids Museum will match the grant with an additional $246,908 in non-federal funds, further enhancing the impact of this project on our community.
