Congressman Nickel Hosts Reproductive Rights Roundtable

Today, Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) hosted a reproductive rights roundtable with Senator Lisa Grafstein, Representative Maria Cervania, Raleigh City Council member Megan Patton, Jillian Riley from Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, Tara Romano from Pro Choice NC, Marla Barthen from ERA-NC, Jennifer Rubin from League of Women Voters NC, Saige Smith from Down Home NC, and Drs. Elizabeth Coviello, Colleen Milroy, and Alan Skipper. The discussion centered on protecting access to reproductive health care services and safeguarding women's rights.

“Since Roe was overturned, we’ve seen a deeply unpopular and out of touch push in Congress to ban abortion and restrict access to contraception, and state legislatures across the country – including here in North Carolina – are enacting extreme bans on abortion and actively working to criminalize women's health care decisions,” said Congressman Wiley Nickel. “Right now, there is so much at stake. The time for action is now and we can't afford to wait while fundamental rights and freedoms are being stripped away or remain at risk.”

In Congress, Rep. Nickel is a member of the Pro Choice Caucus and a cosponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, legislation that would put the protections of Roe v. Wade into federal law and restore the national right to reproductive health care. Congressman Nickel is also a cosponsor of the Right to Contraception Act, a bill to codify the right to contraception into federal law.
